  • Gov Dave in Powell and Cody

park-10-26-06-b.jpgGovernor Dave visited Park County on Thursday, with several trips back and forth between Cody and Powell. He started at the senior center in Cody, where he walked around and talked to people as they ate lunch.  A few folks even said they had voted absentee for him already!

From the senior center, the Governor headed to Powell to visit with downtown business owners.  In one place, the women were so excited to shake his hand that they said they wouldn’t wash their hands for a week.  In a local café, a gentleman asked about economic development, which gave the Governor an opportunity to talk about the infrastructure provided through the Business Ready Communities program and the resurrection of the Main Street Program.

After walking around Powell, the Governor returned to Cody to attend the Business After Hours at the Cody Enterprise’s new building.  It is a beautiful building, and quite an investment in the Cody community.  Around 150 people came out to celebrate the grand opening and visit with the Governor.

park-10-26-06-a.jpgThe Governor’s time at the Cody Enterprise was brief because he had to get back to Nancianna Nott’s home in Powell.  Nancianna hosted a public event for folks to talk with the Governor, and even cooked stew and homemade bread for the group.  Everyone crowded into her living room and asked questions of the Governor.  Topics ranged from Gov Dave’s strong stance against sexual predators, the expansion of the Kid Care health insurance program to some parents, and the continuing struggle to provide sufficient funding to state employee retirees.  Although not everyone agreed with the Governor, it appeared that everyone respected the fact that his views were well thought out and that he genuinely listened to the views of others.

  • Gov Dave enjoys time in Cody.

Governor Dave started the morning with a bowl of oatmeal at Granny’s Café in Cody.  It’s hard to eat healthy on the campaign trail, so it was good that he was able to muster the self-control to eat healthy.  A group of folks who were having coffee asked whether the Governor would support Powerball, and he said that he would.

Park_Irma_09_27_06.jpgNext the Governor visited some of the local businesses to introduce himself and ask whether they had any concerns or comments.  Many people were simply pleased to welcome the governor into their place of business.  In one store – which will remain unnamed in case the First Lady reads this – the governor picked up a business card because he thought it might be a potential place to purchase an anniversary gift for Nancy.  Their anniversary is on November 8th, the day after the election, but he doesn’t want to forget to get her something nice.

One exciting part of the Governor and Hillary’s trip to Cody was that the owner of the Irma Hotel offered to let the governor put up a banner on the front of the Irma.  The owner explained that he never lets politicians put up signs, but that he supports the Governor and would like him to put up a banner.
