  • Red Desert Parade and an Ice Cream Social

Governor Dave and First Lady Nancy were in the Red Desert Parade twice this Saturday. They went through the parade on horseback in their official capacity as entry #11.  After they finished the parade route, they came back around and joined the “Folks For Freudenthal” float at entry #88.  Even though it was very hot, the second time through they insisted on walking along the sides of the street to be closer to the people and hand out candy to kids.

The float was nicely decorated and graced with the presence of a Rodeo Princess and Davy Crockett - who offered their support for Gov Dave.

Many local volunteers helped put the float together and walked in the parade with Dave and Nancy.

Both times through the parade, the Governor and Nancy received a great response. Even though everyone involved with the parade was very hot and tired, they had the next event to keep them focused and motivated – an ice cream social.

The ice cream social was held after the parade at the Episcopal Church.  The Governor and First Lady enjoyed some cold ice cream – strawberry for the Governor – while chatting with people about community events and various other issues.

Quite a few folks came in to meet the governor, have some ice cream, and get out of the hot weather. Sweetwater07_29_06-f.jpg Balloons were also handed out to kids at the event.

Many of the attendees contributed a few dollars for a wristband or signed up to volunteer on the campaign.  All around it was a fun event – and then it was off to Hanna for King Coal Days.
