Gov Dave attended a great gathering on the evening of October 6th.  Jeff Fassett and Fran Cadez, co-hosted with Lynn Birleffi and Phil Noble, and opened their beautiful home to old friends and some new ones for a few hours to discuss issues facing the state with the Governor.  After some lively conversation over appetizers and light fare, the Governor spoke to the crowd about the accomplishments over the last four years and his plans for the future.  He commented that we need to stay the course to complete unfinished projects such as growing the Hathaway Scholarship Program; developing the proper infrastructure in Wyoming for energy development and future economic prosperity and diversification; and continuing efforts with the Wildlife Trust grant program.  His speech ended with rave applause from the group and many were inspired to sign up for future door to door walking and volunteering for the campaign.

Gov Dave at Qwest Employee Meeting
Shortly after lunchtime on a beautiful Friday, Gov Dave set out for some campaigning in Cheyenne.  The afternoon began with a meeting with Qwest employees and some wonderful cookies for an afternoon burst of sugar.  After a brief introduction of each employee and summary of their roles within the company, Gov Dave gave a short summary of the accomplishments over the past four years with the passage of the Hathaway Scholarship program, the Wildlife Trust Fund, and the Business Ready Communities program.  There was a great question and answer session, with many questions from the company employees.  In response, the Governor outlined how he was working to keep Wyoming kids from leaving the state through better training and scholarship programs; discussed long-term mineral and energy development strategies for better economic diversification and stability; and described programs that have been instituted to help with methamphetamine and health insurance issues.  Once all questions were answered, it was off to visit state employees in the building.

The Governor walked through several state employee offices during his trip, including the offices of the Dept. of Health, Medicaid, Retirement and the Health Benefits Plan (including Kid Care), among several others.  Many employees were available and seemed glad the Governor stopped by to say hello.  Several took the time to comment on how glad they were to see the state health newsletter come around and their praise for the Governor’s efforts to implement the new health program benefit.  One woman even complimented Gov Dave on his own weight loss by stating that he inspired her to lose 20 pounds!

After this fun afternoon, it was off to take care of official business with a check presentation to the local library and then a brief stop at the First Interstate Bank to meet employees at the downtown branch.
