  • Gov Dave enjoys the sandwich named after him.

Converse_09_06_06.jpgGovernor Dave and his daughter Katie spent their Saturday in Douglas today. Hoggie’s restaurant hosted the governor’s open house and even unveiled a new sandwich called the “Gov Dave.”  The governor picked the “Gov Dave” sandwich as the classic ham and cheese melt on wheat.  A great number of people came by to say hello and talk with the governor.  Some of the conversations included the state fair and reorganization issues.  Other discussions were about state highway conditions, the State Loan and Investment Board recent activities, and new school buildings across the state. The governor also had several people ask how they could help in his campaign.  He encouraged them to take signs and help with the upcoming door to door effort. Even “staunch Republicans”, as they called themselves, took wristbands and proclaimed their support for the governor. It was a great open house and the governor was very honored to have a sandwich named after him at Hoggie’s Restaurant.

After the open house the governor met with Union Pacific employees and their families at the Douglas High School.  They voiced their concerns about a one man crew, which the governor said he was opposed to. They were also concerned about working conditions and quality of life with their jobs. The governor commented that it does not help to preserve wildlife habitat if they cannot get time off to enjoy what makes Wyoming so great. They then talked about different options with the railroad and what the governor can do to help.  He said he would get into contact with the president of Union Pacific about the specific issues. The governor also talked about his re-election bid and took questions. Questions covered gambling, developing energy on Wyoming’s terms, and bringing new industries to Wyoming. Many people also thanked the governor for his work on the Hathaway Scholarship Program.

  • Gov Dave and First Lady Nancy attend the State Fair

Converse_08_19_06.jpgGovernor Dave and First Lady Nancy were on hand celebrating the State Fair today. They were in the State Fair Parade riding on horseback.  It was a windy day, but many people still came out to see the parade. As they rode by, people clapped as the governor and First Lady waved. The theme this year was “Barn to be Wild” and there were many great floats to see. After they went through the parade once they came back around and joined their campaign float.  Volunteers were both pulling the float by truck and walking along side the float.  They handed out free “Gov Dave” waters and gave candy to kids.  Many people were excited to see the governor twice and that he was walking by the crowd.  They received a great response from the crowd and there was even a horse earlier in the parade with a “Gov Dave” bumper sticker on his caboose!

After the parade Governor Dave and First Lady Nancy walked around the fair grounds.  Every time they are at the State Fair they make sure to pick up delicious Wyoming Raspberry from the booths. They picked up their raspberries and couldn’t resist the additional corn on the cob!  Governor Dave talked with many people and also took note of a constituent concern.  A veteran was concerned about access to the VA. Governor Dave took note. They also watched people sheer sheep and spent some time checking out other features of the fair.
