  • Gov Dave visits Gillette

Today Governor Dave and his daughter Katie visited Gillette.  The two walked through many businesses to meet employees, starting with First National Bank.  They learned more about the banking business in Gillette and how remarkably busy it has become with the recent energy development boom.  Dave and Katie next went to Campbell County Memorial Hospital.  There, they toured the facility and introduced themselves to employees.  The nursery area was very busy, as the birth rates at the hospital are up by about 100 births just this year.

The governor also learned about the state of the art technology employed by the hospital for various health procedures and tests.  Two of the most remarkable parts of the hospital were their Cancer Center and the wide range of quality services provided.  A patient who recognized the governor told him how great the care was at the hospital and how they appreciate their kind customer service.  After visiting the Memorial Hospital, Dave and Katie went to the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. One of the comments by their staff was how much need there is for a larger brain trauma facility in the state.  Gov Dave took note and continued to learn more about the beautiful facility. Later in the afternoon they toured First Interstate Bank.  Like First National Bank, First Interstate Bank was a very busy and growing business.  They toured four of the floors and talked with employees. Later that evening the First Lady joined the governor at an official event - the annual Gillette Chamber of Commerce Dinner.

  • Freudenthal Family Spends Time in Gillette

Campbell_10_02_06.jpgGovernor Dave and Nancy, along with their daughters Hillary and Katie, spent an evening walking door to door in Gillette tonight.  They were joined by a group of volunteers who asked their neighbors to vote for the Governor.  Following their door to door campaigning, which included good exercise for the family and avoiding some rather big dogs, the Freudenthal family attended an Open House for the Governor at the Cam-Plex.  People streamed into the building for the opportunity to meet and visit with the governor.  Some younger supporters came in to learn about Gov Dave and the political process for a Cub Scout badge they had been working on. Dave offered a few words and answered questions.  They spent the rest of the evening chatting and raffled off a 710 Remington rifle at the end of the evening – which was won by David Urquidez of Cheyenne.

For the next couple of days Governor Dave and Nancy split up - one going with Hillary and the other going with Katie to visit with people around town.  Dave spent the next day doing a mix of official and campaign appointments.  He joined Steve Norris on the morning Radio Show and then had a meeting with the Mayor and Police Chief.  He also toured PCA Engineering and discussed ways to address the housing shortages with their employees.  For lunch he joined the County Commissioners and discussed local issues.  Read about their discussions here: http://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/articles/2006/10/04/news/news02.txt

The Governor’s day was far from over: after lunch he had two more radio interviews, toured Twin Spruce Junior High (read about his visit to the school here http://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/articles/2006/10/04/news/news01.txt),  presented a check to the Campbell County Library on behalf of the state, walked door to door for a second evening, and then had another reception to meet some new folks.  What a busy day!

First Lady Nancy Freudenthal also had a busy day in Gillette.  She started the morning by visiting a Habitat for Humanity house and meeting its new owner.  Nancy was struck by the fact that the new homeowner was a nurse with a good job, but still did not see purchasing a home in her future.  The First Lady then visited the Gillette Abuse Refuge Foundation, where she learned about the importance of making No Contact Orders more enforceable to protect victims of domestic violence.  For lunch, Nancy and Hillary joined graduates of the Climb Wyoming program – both were very inspired by the women they met!  The Climb Wyoming program trains and places single mothers in jobs that successfully support their families (for more information, click here https://www.ourfamiliesourfuture.org/fhh.jsp).

More impressive than the jobs they each held, though, was the clear confidence and optimism the women displayed.  For the rest of the day, First Lady Nancy visited the local YES House, the AVA Community Art Center, the Boys and Girls Club, and of course joined Governor Dave and Katie for door to door in the evening.
