Food Sales Tax

Governor Dave, First Lady Nancy, Representative Robinson, and Senator Barrasso grocery shopping in celebration of the food tax holiday.
As you may know, this week marks the first week of the food sales tax holiday. We in Wyoming are seeing pretty good times, but the fact remains that the cost of purchasing food to feed a family continues to rise. Our state has a lot of money right now, so the right thing to do was to find a way to use that money to make life a little easier for taxpayers.
We were able to do just that, and for the first time in several decades, we cut taxes for the citizens of Wyoming.
The holiday of the sales tax on food will save each Wyoming household about $300 per year for the next two years. For a young family or an older couple living on a fixed income, $300 means a lot.
Unfortunately, the law removing the sales tax on food will end on June 30, 2008. If elected to another term as your governor, I will work with legislators to make this tax relief permanent. I believe it is an important way to help the citizens of Wyoming purchase the basic goods they need to live.
