Gov Dave Fruedenthal 2006
On the Campaign Trail with Hillary and Katie as they visit Laramie, Saratoga, Rawlins and Casper

August 24 - Visiting the Casper office

Office in CasperWe spent some time in the Casper office this week. It was fun to get to know some of the volunteers up there, and to see how that office works after being in the Cheyenne headquarters so much. It is much calmer in the Casper office, so we had a chance to visit a little bit with folks. We also helped with some of the phone calls that needed to be made to ask volunteers to come in and help with some upcoming mailings. Thanks to all of the Casper volunteers – especially Joan, Beth, and Dick - for all of your work getting the Casper office together!

August 10 - Enjoying Time With the Family in Laramie

Anders, Hillary, Katie, Nancy, and Dave outside of the Horse Barn Dinner Theatre.

Hillary and I had a nice change of pace tonight, as we got to spend a fun night out with Mom and Dad along with Hillary's fiance Anders. We went to Laramie for the Wyoming Territorial Prison Horse Barn and Dinner Theater to watch them perform Annie of the West. We were excited, since we both really like musicals, and the only music we get during the campaign is listening to each other sing along with the iPod while we're in the car! Needless to say, this was much better. Hillary was also especially excited because she LOVES the original Annie. More about Annie of the West in a minute, but first, there was some pre-show entertainment that we should probably mention. They made our entire family (along with some other people in the audience) get up onstage and do a line dance in front of everybody! We were each on one side of Dad, who kept messing up and bumping into us! It was a little embarrassing, but pretty funny. One thing's for sure - Dad wasn't elected governor because of his dancing skills.

Anyway, the main attraction was a lot better than Dad's dancing, and we all really enjoyed it. Most of the actors were kids, and they were really good. We were all impressed with the show, and had a great time. We should do this more often!

Week of August 7 - the Report to Wyoming

Finally, we are mailing out the Report to Wyoming! This is a document that everyone in the campaign has worked very, very hard on. Our goal has been to provide a document that highlights what Dad and the Legislature have accomplished in the past four years, so that people can get an accurate sense of what has been done. At the same time, we didn't want to bore people with too many details. In the course of putting this together, we definitely realized just how much time four years is - there were tons of decisions and laws to choose from in terms of what to include in the Report. We know some of the issues that people care about aren't going to be covered, but we hope that it covers the issues that are of interest to the majority of folks. We hope people find it useful! August 3 - Traveling Separately and With a Moose

moose in yardBecause we're traveling with both Mom and Dad this trip, we're splitting up so that each of us goes with one parent. In Carbon County, Katie accompanied Mom to Saratoga. There, they put up yard signs, talked to local businesses, and did some shopping (Katie came back with a great "campaign bag" that she described as very practical, but it looks suspiciously like a purse!) Hillary and Dad spent time in Rawlins, with the highlight being able to see the new Mercantile store not long before it is supposed to open. Many volunteers were steaming and hanging clothes so that they would be ready for opening day.

moose in yard behind Gov Dave and First Lady NancyOn Friday morning, we had all joined together. We were given a big surprise when the people at our hotel said a moose had wandered into town and was walking through a nearby neighborhood. So of course, like everyone else, we went over to see the moose - indeed, it was lounging on someone's lawn, apparently not bothered by the crowd that had gathered to see it!
