July 26 - Park County Fair
We are working the booth at the Park County Fair for a couple of days. It has been extremely hot in Powell, but we lucked out because our booth is in the air conditioned exhibit hall! Every time we walk outside into the heat to get food or hand out balloons we are thankful for our great booth location. Many people have come by to sign up to volunteer, ask for a yard sign, pick up a wristband, relay a message back to Dad, or just chat for a few minutes.
Right now it is 9:30 p.m. and we have a half hour left of booth duty at the fair. We feel a little bad because we ran out of some of our "fun" materials, like balloons and Gov Dave water bottles. The balloons were a great success and we took turns being the "balloon lady" and giving out balloons to kids. Also, we brought several cases of Gov Dave water bottles, but we ran out of those pretty fast too. We can't completely credit Dad for the water's popularity, though - the 100 degree weather must certainly have been a factor as well.

We have had so much help from volunteers at this fair. Steve Thulin is our new hero. He set up our booth on Wednesday, and has filled in here and there to give us food breaks or a chance to walk around. In the photo to the left, Steve is with us in our booth. Not only was he helping at our booth but he was also a huge help at the Elks booth selling sloppy joes, shrimp cocktail, tacos in a bag, and curly fries. Many other local supporters have helped out and are working the other days of the fair since we are leaving early. We are so grateful they are excited to help on the campaign.
Of course not any fair is complete without eating some gut-bombs. We definitely treated ourselves to some greasy fair food. Here is a picture of Katie with one of her favorite foods: french fries.
She says she didn't realize they would end up so big.. yeah right! Hillary ate her share of grease too, with such items as an "Indian Taco." It's a good thing Dad was busy with other things and not eating gut-bombs at the fair with us - Mom most certainly would have disapproved.
Besides eating, we still have had plenty of time to chat with people. A former Game and Fish employee came by the booth and was really pleased with what Dad has done for wildlife. Another guy came by and told us about how for eight years they had tried to get a meeting with the governor about solid waste management in Powell and that it only took 60 days after Dad's election to meet with him. It is so cool to hear people talk specifically about why they support Dad and talk about real results. Another interesting comment we have heard several times is, "I am a Republican but I do like the governor and will support him." It is amazing that even in Park County - which traditionally votes primarily for Republican candidates - we are hearing such great support for Dad.
We have had a great time at the Park County Fair, but in the morning we are driving to Rock Springs to attend some campaign events and the Red Desert Parade down there. We are both disappointed that we didn't have a chance to ride the Zipper at the carnival, but sometimes work just has to come before play!
