July 21 - Working in Cheyenne

Jerry and Carlene at Cheyenne headquartersHillary and I have been in Cheyenne for last couple of days. As the summer is heating up it has been nice to be in headquarters for these days (and even nicer now that we've had a hand-me-down swamp cooler installed!!). It has also been nice to sleep in our own beds for a couple days and get some well-needed rest at home. As the campaign is picking up speed, we can't help but feel excited. We are Fan cooling computerworking so hard down at Headquarters. Hillary has even overworked her computer! There is so much energy in headquarters with volunteers coming in and out, either helping for a morning or an afternoon, or both! We are so grateful that so many people are willing to devote time to Dad and our collective efforts to get him re-elected. In the picture are Jerry and Carlene, two volunteers that come in during the day - we don't know what we would do without them.

Night crew having a picnic supperWe have also just started something new here at headquarters. Many people were saying they would love to help but are too busy during the day. We have plenty of work for everyone to do, so we found a solution and created "The Night Crew"! We both like working here with the night crew because the phone isn't constantly ringing and there are fewer distractions than there are during the day. Here is one of our first night crews taking a food break for a picnic outside of headquarters. Pictures of other volunteers helping out at headquarters are shown below.

July 14- WYO Sheridan, Heritage Towers and Sundance

Morning in Sheridan
Runners preparing to start

We were in Sheridan for the WYO parade this morning. We decided to get an early start and go to the pancake breakfast. As we were walking to the plaza in front of City Hall where breakfast was being held, we saw many people out in the street stretching and getting ready for a run. People all across the state came up for the Sheridan Run and we decided to watch the run before breakfast. Our hunger got to us faster then the runners came back around so we got in line for pancakes. Pancake breakfast ticketNow that we had watched people get some exercise, we considered being bothered by the fact we were about to eat some sugary syrup- drenched pancakes. After the one quick thought, it was dismissed and our minds switched to a yummy breakfast. The pancakes were very delicious and we sat next to a family who were natives of Sheridan but had recently moved out of the state.

After breakfast, the sun was rising and it was only getting hotter. The parade was about to begin and we were getting our supplies together. We started a little bit earlier then the parade so we could talk with more people. There were also local supporters handing out Gov Dave materials. We figured "the more the better" and jumped right in and started to hand more materials out. Thank goodness we helped walk the route because as we were running into local volunteers they were all out of supplies! It was pretty neat to know so many people were taking Freudenthal materials. It was a good response. People were excited to get Freudenthal stickers, fans, and buttons. We couldn't help but feel excited too! While we were on the parade edges in the hot sun, Mom and Dad were in the parade riding horses.

Lunch in Sheridan

After the parade we went to Heritage Towers to have lunch. Unfortunately Hillary had to do some last minute things and was unable to go. So Mom, Dad, and Katie went to the senior center and enjoyed a relaxing lunch. Dad was already walking around tables and talking with people. People were excited to see Dad and Mom and some people asked to even take their Gov Dave and First Lady Nancy with two supporterspicture with them! Growing up we never really thought about people wanting to be in a picture with Dad or Mom or even treasuring the picture. It is pretty cool to see people appreciate and respect them in their work. Burgers were for lunch and they were very good, although Mom and Dad's table filled up quite fast and I sat at a different table with Nancy Drummond, the grillers, and the performers. They were all very nice people and it was interesting to hear their stories about Sheridan. On our way out Nancy Drummond was kind enough to give us a "To Go" for Hillary so she would have something to eat for lunch during the drive to Sundance.

Evening in Sundance

As you can see, our day was beginning to get long! We then got into the car and drove 3 hours to Sundance. This evening Dad had a meet and greet event at Mike and Becky Easley's house. We set up the "Dave Freudenthal" banner outside their house so everyone would know they were at the right house for the event. When we got inside there was much flurry in the kitchen. The smells and delicious food were very hard to resist. Katie became such a fan of their Pumpkin Bread that Becky gave her some to take home after the event. The turnout was good. People came and went and we made sure they were all able to meet Dad. You can see Dad with Marjorie Goodson sitting on the couch chatting.Gov Dave chatting while sitting on a couch The Easley's dog, "Killer," even made a debut. Ironically Killer is a small little shy dog! Dad talked with people about the Thorn Complex Fire, removal of sales tax on farm equipment and food, and the Hathaway Scholarship Program. After the event was winding down, we got all of our materials together and took our banner down. We were anxious about getting home and to Dad's dismay we drove home late into the night from Sundance. We still had to check in during the drive, but we reassured Dad we were keeping each other awake singing and chatting on the way home. Mom and Dad stayed the night in order to visit the fire the next morning.

July 11 - Casper Parade and New Campaign Office

Casper campaign headquartersWe drove up to Casper today to help pass out Freudenthal Fans to the crowd at the parade. It was so hot and crowded, and the parade route was really long! Unfortunately we didn't get all the way through the route, but Mom and Dad both walked next to Dick Sedar's car for the whole parade, so hopefully people at least saw them.

After the parade, we got to visit the new Casper office for the campaign! The headquarters is downtown near Sanfords, in the space that used to be "Fajita Cantina". It is exciting that we have another office outside of Cheyenne and we're really looking forward to working with all of the volunteers from Casper. It's hard to believe, but they have already found volunteers to keep the office open all day every day of the week. Nice job, Casper!
