Gov Dave Fruedenthal 2006

On the Campaign Trail with the Freudenthal Family

This is Katie. It has been a busy couple of days on the road in Campbell County. Fortunately Dad, Mom, Hillary, and I, all spent the evening of October 2nd together for some campaigning. We went Door to Door walking and the weather was just about perfect. The wind wasn't blowing and it was a cool fall evening. I'm always glad when we get to go Door to Door because we get to be outside and get a little bit of exercise. I'm always walking fast between doors and getting my little "speech" concise and to the point. Door to Door is a nice alternative to banquets, events, and other places where we do a lot of sitting. After walking Door to Door with the family and other volunteers we had an open house at the Cam-Plex Heritage Center Lobby. People came in and out, Dad gave a speech, but the most exciting part of the night was the "rifle raffle!" We have been selling tickets for a 710 Remington Rifle for a while and it finally was the night to raffle it off. After Dad's speech he took questions and he also gave out his "substance free" CAN trading cards to kids in the audience.

The next day the family split up and Hillary went with Mom while I spent the day with Dad. Dad and I went to KIML Radio first and he spoke on Steve Norris's morning Radio Show. After the interview, Dad had an official meeting for a half an hour and then we toured an Engineering Firm and discussed how to help with the housing shortages in Wyoming. After the Engineering Firm visit, he had two more radio interviews on KPFS/KYDT and Wyoming Public Radio. For lunch we met with the County Commissioners. After a delicious lunch Dad had another radio talk show and boy did he do a lot of talking! Throughout the course of the campaign I have come to know Dad's answers to hot topic questions. In any audience and at any time Dad will tell people his opinion whether or not that is the answer they want to hear. I've always known that Dad does not change who he is depending on his audience. Needless to say, I knew what to expect and I think he did a good job handling his interviews today.

From 2 pm to 4 pm we were supposed to have free time, but unscheduled time usually gets filled up on the campaign trail. Last night at the Cam-Plex we talked with the principal of Twin Spruce Junior High and he offered to give us a tour of the school, so we took him up on the offer this afternoon. I'm glad we did because we were able to interact with kids and talk to them about the state and the Hathaway Scholarship. They always ask the most interesting questions! That evening we met up with Hillary and Mom for Door to Door. We also met some new volunteers and avoided all big dogs during our walking adventures! (I had a close call with a big dog that exploded out of his fence!!!! Luckily his owner came out to fetch him right away...) After an exhilarating night of door to door we all went to a fundraising event with an amazing turn out! There were so many people at the event to talk with that I barely had enough time to visit the snack table for some late night dinner.
