A recent poll indicates that Gov. Dave Freudenthal has extended his lead over likely challenger Ray Hunkins. The Rasmussen Report political poll shows that Freudenthal is favored by 58% of 500 likely Wyoming voters, while his probable opponent polled at 29% - a difference of 29 percentage points with 13% undecided. The most recent results followed a poll from April, where Freudenthal garnered the support of 52% of likely voters. Hunkins' numbers are unchanged from April.
"Nancy and I have had the great opportunity to travel around the state this summer - to fairs, parades, and rodeos," the Governor said. "While everyone knows the only poll that really matters comes out on November 7, it seems to me a lot of positive momentum is building for a great result come election time," Freudenthal said.
The Governor also noted a Surveyusa.com poll indicating 66% of Wyoming people approve of the direction he is taking the state. "Together with legislators and the people of this state, we have put the state on the right track. By putting Wyoming first and not caring who gets the credit, we have really made great progress to build a better future for our children and grandchildren," the Governor said.
Freudenthal also pointed to one of the most respected national political experts, Charles Cook, whose "Cook Report" recently called Gov. Dave's seat "solid". Noting his cautious optimism, the Governor remarked, "We still have a lot of work to do, but it seems that people are more and more willing to give us the reigns for another four years."
